The Copse

65 x 100 cms

Loosely based on a photograph of a valley in New Zealand known for its wine production, I was pleased with the way this one turned out. I think the colours work well, and the trees make interesting shapes. People seem to see different things in it, which is always a good sign. I think, with those dark shadows, it has a touch Dali /De Chirico about it which I like, and reckon I may pursue in the future. It was good to include the close ups.. I think they give a good impression of the time spent fiddling around with the paint, trying to get feeling of the subject without including too much detail. In fact, most of my time is spent putting in and removing detail.
